Prep Report: Southwestern secures road win at Edinburgh

Southwestern secured its first road win and Mid-Hoosier Conference win of the season Monday at Edinburgh.

The Spartans scored 24 points in the second and fourth quarters against the Lancers to net a 65-62 victory.

Ben Kahler scored a game-high 26 points and Avery Dennison finished with 19 to improve Southwestern to 3-16 overall and 1-4 in the MHC standings.

Southwestern led 32-21 at halftime and survived Edinburgh’s 24-point third quarter that got the Lancers a 45-42 lead.

Carter Snepp scored seven of his 10 points in the fourth quarter for Southwestern and Mitchell Clements drained a pair of three-pointers in the quarter to seal the victory.

Connor Ramey led Edinburgh (10-10, 2-4 MHC) with 20 points. Bailey Totten added 12 and Rylan Londeree finished with 11.

Edinburgh won the junior varsity game, 45-32. Cecil Newton led the Spartans with 12 points.

The final week of the boys basketball regular season continues this week for Southwestern with a road trip Friday to North Decatur (12-9, 4-1 MHC).

Gymnastics

Morristown scored an 81.275, its highest team score of the season, but could not prevail in a dual meet at Rushville.

Sophomore Remi Spicklemire finished second in the all-around competition with a second-place finish on the balance beam and third-place finishes on the vault, uneven bars and floor exercise.

Freshman Savannah Theobald placed fourth in the all-around with best results in the vault (fourth) and floor exercise (fifth).

Junior Annika Roots placed fifth in the all-around.

Morristown will enter the postseason Saturday at the Connersville Sectional.
