Prep Report: Greenfield-Central pins first softball loss on Class 2A, No. 11 Triton Central

Class 2A, No. 11 Triton Central built a 4-0- lead at Greenfield-Central Monday but the Cougars scored twice in the third inning, four times in the fourth and five times in the fifth to secure their first win of the season, 11-7.

Lillian Fillippinie had three hits for Triton Central in its season opener but she took the loss in the pitcher’s circle in relief of starter Brylie Couch, who pitched the first three innings and limited G-C to two runs.

Greenfield-Central (1-3) only had three hits in the win but used 10 walks to keep pressure on the Tigers.

Triton Central hosts Warren Central (0-3) Wednesday.

Baseball

Waldron 12, Rising Sun 6

At Waldron, the host Mohawks scored nine runs in the first two innings and secured their first win of the season.

Jared Brooks earned the win on the mound, allowing one hit and one run while pitching into the third inning. Jordan Bennett closed the game and surrendered three hits and five runs – none were earned.

Jacob Bennett led Waldron (1-1) with three hits, including a triple, three runs scored and two RBI. J.D. Smith and Brooks each had two hits.

Rising Sun is 0-2 this season.

Waldron hosts South Ripley (1-1) Friday.
