Frances Mae (Wells) LeClerc, 92, of Shelby County

Frances Mae (Wells) LeClerc passed away on November 22, 2021 in Shelby County, Indiana where she spent her entire 92 years of life.

She was born on October 4, 1929 to Albert Sylvester and Ruby Marie (Hamilton} Wells. She was a sister to Edmond Earl Wells (Agnes), Reba Alice (Wells) Dougherty, (Earl), JanetMarion (Wells) McAhren, (David) and Alma Catherine (infant death).

She was first married to Lyle Maxdale Asher for seven years and had her only child, Larry Michael Asher (Jan). Grandchildren are Scott (Christina) and Brian (Lori). Great Grandchildren are Christopher, Lauren, Bryce, Luke, Aidan and Sophia.

Fran also had a Great-Great Granddaughter, Anastasia Jean Tsataros, born a week before she died.

She then married the love of her life Rex LeRoy LeClerc on January 16, 1961 until his death, December 26, 2017. Rex and Mae lived a very happy life together, making annual trips to Florida and Cruising. They also travelled everywhere to attend grandchildrens’ events.

Mae, or Fran, as she was equally called, graduated from Shelbyville High School magna cum laude in that glamour year of 1947 and felt very much a part of the state championship basketball team. She was Chemistry lab partner to Bill Garrett and tutored Marshall Murray.

Fran did not work outside the home after marrying Rex, but her early life jobs included Bradley Hall record department (meeting Mel Torme), Shelbyville Public Utilities, Citizens Gas and Coke.

Part of the reason she was able to be a homemaker was her ability to budget and make the incoming dollars go farther. In her budget there was always allowances for kids and grandkids needs or special family gatherings. A humorous aside is she once spent an hour with Medicaid representatives, showing them how her budgeting methods did not match up with their rules and how Medicaid should change their rules.

Mae devoted so much of her life caring for her family. First, being a bedside watcher for her dad. Second, she became a daily caretaker for her mom for over 10 years. When her husband, Rex had to go to the Nursing Home, she would spend 6 hours a day with him, never missing a day, even when snowy roads should have kept her away.

Fran was a very talented musician. She played the piano and organ by ear, choosing to ignore sheet music given to her. Family holidays always ended with she and her 2 sisters doing the dishes and singing in three part harmony, often hymns, andLennon or McGuire Sisters hits.

Frances Mae was a devout Christian that studied the Bible daily, lived her life in Christ and showed God’s love in her service to others. We mourn her passing, but rejoice in the knowledge that she will spend Eternity in the presence of our Lord and Savior.

There will be a private family gathering at a later date.
